5 Tips For Taking Photos For Your Website | Website Photography | Brand Shoot Tips

There’s photography, there’s web design, and then there’s photography for web design.  When you are getting ready to go to a branding shoot, here’s some things to consider if you’re planning on using any of the images on your website.

  1. Horizontal is queen.
The vertical images are nice and they suit our bodies, however online, horizontal images generally display better.  That’s not saying they should ALL be horizontal, however I encourage you to let your photographer know that you’d like a good mix.

  2. Working shots.
Photos of you smiling are great and help people get to know you in a way, but the images of you working, a photo of your hands, or a photo of you talking on the phone tend to be nice to create different looks on your website.  We don’t want to see the same photo over and over again.  Try different poses, zooming in, zooming out, and different angles.

  3. Think about your hero image.
Spend some time thinking about what you want this image to convey and go into the photoshoot with an idea for it.  Read more about choosing a hero image here. Learn a foolproof formula for hero images here.

  4. Bring things that make you feel good.
Show off your personality.  Yes, your brand matters, however when it comes to photography, there’s so much more emotion behind the colors and outfits.  Click here to learn why I brought a board game to my branding shoot.

  5. Go with what you know.
The more comfortable and at ease you are, the more your photos will end up how you want them to.  Doing a branding shoot can cause a lot of us to be in our heads already… Where does my arm go?  Am I smiling weird?  Does this even look good?  So try and make it simple for yourself.

Branding shoots should be fun and not stressful. At the end of the day, the best thing you can do is make it as enjoyable for you as possible.
